A useful robot does not always need to walk like a person. Galbot's G1 moves on wheels and uses its arms to work with objects, bringing the company's ambitions close to familiar tasks such as fetching an item from a shelf. Galbot is building both the machine and the AI behind those actions. Its commercial story is rooted in workplaces and services, even as its marketing looks toward the home.124

People and research behind the robots

Galbot was founded in May 2023. He Wang’s academic biography identifies him as founder and chief technology officer and a tenure-track assistant professor at Peking University. In July 2024, Hong Kong Investment Corporation identified Tengzhou Yao as a co-founder and described research centres in Beijing, Shenzhen and Suzhou, a joint laboratory with Peking University and a research centre with the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence.23

That research connection is central to how Galbot presents itself. Its AstraBrain system brings perception, decision-making and control together, aiming to connect what a robot sees with what its body does next. In ordinary terms, recognising a bottle is only the beginning: the machine still has to approach it, take hold of it and put it where it belongs. That is the practical problem this approach seeks to address.1

The company’s July 2024 collaboration with Hong Kong Investment Corporation extended that work into a local team, talent exchange and possible business applications. At the launch, retail jobs such as stocking and picking were concrete examples, while household and elderly-care services were described as areas to explore. For someone following a future home robot, retail work offers a starting point for asking which tasks could transfer to a household.2

Follow the product, not just the company name

Galbot’s robots combine physical handling with software for a particular setting. G1 and S1 have different workloads; the current catalogue also names ET1, which has its own product identity.456

G1 and S1

G1 is the model to explore for wheeled manipulation and services. S1 is a separate industrial machine, announced in January 2026 with a company-claimed continuous dual-arm payload of 50 kg. The heavier-duty S1 serves a different workload; G1 has its own specifications and configuration.456

Developer tools and solutions

Galbot's developer offering also comes in distinct layers: basic tools, scenario kits and complete custom solutions. The company says these are priced separately. For a customer, the important purchase question is how much of the finished job is included. A robot and SDK, a partly configured application and a system delivered to perform a defined task are meaningfully different commitments.7

Start with one complete job

Galbot said in December 2025 that its G1-operated stores were running in more than 30 Chinese cities. That gives its retail work a specific setting and date. For a household reader, it is also a reminder to ask whether a demonstration takes place in a prepared commercial space or in the kind of changing, shared room where the robot would actually be used.8

For a future home purchase, start with a task that has a clear finish: collect a particular object and bring it to a particular person, for example. Ask which robot, gripper, software and supervision make that possible, then ask what happens when the object is missing or the route is blocked. Galbot's own separation of hardware, tools and solutions makes that a more useful conversation than asking whether a robot is generally intelligent.47
