Husqvarna brings Automower into a wider business of forest and garden equipment, Gardena products and construction tools. The company behind that range is Husqvarna AB, the listed outdoor-equipment group. For a household, the useful connection is between the mower, the installation it needs and the local business that will keep it working.1345

An industrial business keeps finding new jobs

The business began as a rifle factory at Huskvarna, Sweden, in 1689. In 1872, machinery suited to weapons production helped it move into sewing machines. Its history is one of manufacturing skills being adapted to new products across generations, rather than a modern company founded around one robot.2

Husqvarna introduced a solar-powered robotic mower in 1995. The group became independently listed in Stockholm in 2006. Automower has since become the product-family name a household encounters when looking for help with the lawn, within an equipment business that reaches well beyond robotic mowing.12

The group’s October 2026 reporting material identifies Glen Instone as CEO and Patrik Johnson as CFO. Its accounts cover the outdoor-equipment and construction businesses together. The financial scale of that group provides company context, while a mower purchase still depends on its particular model and support arrangement.13

Products and garden jobs

Automower includes different generations and boundary systems. An existing wired garden and a new installation can lead to different choices, even when two mower names look similar. Start with the full model and article number, then price a complete working installation.456

Automower 450X, original model

The original 450X uses boundary and guide wires. Husqvarna’s UK support site marks it discontinued, with manuals still available. Its GPS assistance does not replace the physical boundary installation. For remaining stock or a used machine, identify the article number, battery condition and equipment included.46

Automower 450X NERA

The separately named 450X NERA supports a physical boundary or optional EPOS satellite-based installation. The UK base package identified as article 970 53 53-03 excludes the EPOS plug-in and reference station. Ask the dealer to identify the accessories required for your garden and include them in the quote.5

Plan the work around your garden

If a mower is replacing an older Automower, sketch the existing wire, guide routes and charging position before deciding what to retain. Have the dealer assess compatibility and the work needed to change systems. For a first installation, begin with the garden’s passages and boundaries rather than assuming every Automower offers the same navigation.56

The original 450X manual describes blade replacement, cleaning, battery care and seasonal service. It also calls for loose objects to be cleared and people and animals to be kept out of the mowing area. Those routines belong beside the mowing schedule when deciding how the machine will fit into family life.6

What would a normal mowing week require?

Would you rather keep a suitable wired installation or arrange a new boundary system? Ask for the full installed cost of each option, who will diagnose faults and which parts remain available for the exact mower. These answers help turn a choice between model names into a plan for maintaining your garden.456
