KEYi Tech
The consumer-robotics business behind ClicBot and Loona, whose official site now presents it as Loona Inc.1
KEYi Tech's products connect motion, expression and play. ClicBot offers a modular construction format, while Loona Petbot is a ready-made character for interaction around an indoor space. The official site now introduces the business as Loona Inc., formerly KEYi Technology.15
Visit KEYi Tech ↗Motion control becomes a character
The company’s timeline begins in Beijing in 2014 with high-torque actuator and motion-control work. A July 2021 financing announcement names Yang Jianbo as founder and chief executive at that time. This engineering background helps explain the attention to physical movement as well as software in the later products.12
The timeline places ClicBot’s Kickstarter milestone in 2020 and Loona’s development milestone in 2022-2023. These products offer different starting points: assembling and programming a modular robot, or interacting with a mobile character. The company’s site also identifies Deskmate as a separate desktop product line.1
The newer Loona Inc. presentation keeps the earlier KEYi Technology name visible. The exact registered relationship between the names is not established in the cited company account, so a buyer should use the seller’s legal terms to identify the contracting business. The established product lineage can still be followed without assuming a corporate merger or parent relationship.1
Products and everyday interaction
Choose the intended activity before the product name: a construction project, mobile play or a desk-based device. A shared Loona label does not make hardware, features or service terms interchangeable.1
ClicBot
ClicBot is the modular robot in the company’s history, with a Kickstarter milestone in 2020. It is the appropriate starting point for someone interested in building and programming a physical configuration rather than buying the Petbot’s ready-made character.1
Loona Petbot
The Premium package groups Petbot with a charging dock and game props. The maker describes indoor movement and interactions using voice, touch, faces and supported gestures, with games and Blockly programming among the activities. For a family, that offers several ways to play with the same moving character.345
Loona Deskmate
Deskmate is a separate desktop line on the company’s site. Evaluate its own hardware and service description; Petbot’s included dock, games or subscription wording should not be transferred to it.13
Choosing the interaction and support
The maker’s price guide reviewed on October 26, 2026 says Petbot’s core experience has no mandatory monthly subscription. That statement belongs to the named product and guide date. Ask which connected features are included in the offered package and whether their terms differ from the core experience.3
KEYi's February 5, 2023 general privacy policy describes contact, order, usage and diagnostic information, including sharing with service providers. It leaves Petbot-specific camera and microphone storage, deletion and child controls unclear. Before enabling connected interaction, check the notice and controls for the actual app and account.6
What would living with it involve?
Where would a moving robot play and charge, who would manage its account, and what activities do you actually want it to offer? Ask for the exact unit’s setup requirements and a demonstration in a comparable space. A desk product and a robot moving around the floor answer different versions of that question.135
