PAL Robotics

Barcelona's maker of research humanoids, mobile assistants and inventory robots has been developing the field since 2004.1

PAL Robotics builds machines that other people can put to work on a specific problem. Its range reaches from walking research humanoids to robots that track stock or carry an arm through a room. For a reader curious about future home help, PAL offers a view of the platforms and experiments behind those possibilities.1

A long route through humanoid robotics

PAL traces its beginnings to 2004 in Barcelona and names Francesco Ferro as a co-founder and its current CEO. Its timeline places REEM-A in 2005, with chess capability described in 2006 and ROS software integration in 2009.134

That history helps explain PAL's emphasis on configurable machines. A researcher needs access to movement, sensors and software so that an experiment can change. A shop needs a narrower system that performs its assigned job. PAL's product range serves both kinds of customer, rather than treating every robot as the same sort of assistant.14

TALOS brought a full-size research humanoid to the LAAS-CNRS laboratory in Toulouse, where the first unit, PYRENE, was presented in February 2017. Kangaroo followed as a separate locomotion program, which PAL dates to 2021; its timeline records sale versions with and without arms in 2025.45

Robots and the work they are designed for

PAL’s range separates walking research, mobile manipulation, inventory and social interaction. Those jobs are a more useful guide than whether a robot has a friendly face or a human-shaped body.1

TALOS

TALOS is a full-size biped research platform with industrial manipulation origins. Its first unit, PYRENE, was presented at LAAS-CNRS in February 2017. PAL offers it through a quotation, so the equipment and development support belong in the discussion with the supplier.57

Kangaroo

Kangaroo focuses on dynamic locomotion and AI research. PAL dates the program to 2021 and records two sale versions in 2025. The current platform is configurable and offered by quotation, rather than as one fixed household package.48

TIAGo, StockBot and ARI

TIAGo carries manipulation into a mobile platform, StockBot uses RFID for inventory, and ARI focuses on social interaction. Their roles show how the same company can serve both research teams and more narrowly defined service jobs.1

From a research table to your own task

At the euROBIN European Parliament event on 2 September 2026, PAL demonstrated Kangaroo locomotion and TIAGo Pro research. PAL described the latter as a breakfast-table cleanup exercise. Clearing a table is familiar work; the useful question is how the setup changes when the table, dishes and people change.3

For a laboratory, start with the experiment you need to change: the movement, sensors or software. For a service job, describe the result that needs repeating. Ask PAL which configuration and support arrangement fit that brief before comparing machines by appearance.178
