Tombot is developing Jennie for people who want a puppy-like companion but cannot or do not want to keep a live pet. The company describes touch responses, voice commands and puppy sounds. For a household considering it, the immediate decision is whether to follow its launch and waitlist, since the cited offer does not yet settle price or delivery.13

A personal reason to build a robotic puppy

Founder and chief executive Tom Stevens traces the project to his mother’s experience: she could no longer safely keep her dog, prompting him to look for an alternative. Tombot dates the company’s launch to 2017. That personal account explains the intended audience and motivation; it is not evidence that Jennie reproduces the benefits of living with an animal.234

Tombot credits Jim Henson’s Creature Shop with animatronic artistry. Its investor page describes interactive sensors, voice commands, puppy sounds, rechargeable power and software updates. These are company descriptions of the proposed experience. A prospective owner would still need to understand the handling, charging and care arrangements of the version actually supplied.13

The company’s June 25, 2026 announcement set a fall 2026 customer-launch target and reported more than 23,000 combined preorder and waitlist customers. That combined measure does not identify paid orders or delivered robots. At the October 26 source check, Tombot’s homepage still said it was preparing its first puppies, called the first litter sold out and invited readers to join a waitlist for later pricing and availability.12

Products and their context

Jennie is the puppy-shaped companion covered by Tombot’s launch plans. Its current waitlist language is the relevant purchase context; older design descriptions and a launch forecast do not establish a shipped revision.12

Jennie

Tombot describes a robot that responds to touch and voice, with puppy sounds and rechargeable power. A 2021 update also described an app for configuration and renaming. That older account should not be treated as confirmation of the final app, phone compatibility or current subscription terms.235

Understand the offer and the claims

The October 2021 care article described wiping with a wet washcloth and mild soap or detergent, without submerging the robot. It is useful historical design context, not a final care manual or validated disinfection procedure. Ask for the instructions attached to the delivered revision, especially if the robot would be shared.5

Tombot’s investor page describes an ambition to pursue an FDA device pathway. An intended pathway does not establish authorization, a pending application or a clinical benefit for Jennie. No such authorization or benefit is established by the sources cited here. A treatment claim would need its own direct evidence.3

A practical starting point

Who would use Jennie, and who would handle charging, cleaning and support? Before committing, ask for the actual shipping date, total price, return terms and repair arrangements. A waitlist can keep you informed, but the answers need to come from the final offer for the model you would receive.135
