1X is pursuing a familiar wish: help with the jobs that keep a household running. Its consumer robot, NEO, follows years of work on EVE, a wheeled machine used in industrial settings. Moving into the home also changes the relationship with the owner, who must decide how much human assistance and remote access they are comfortable bringing into daily life.27

1X traces its historical beginning to 2014. Previously known as Halodi Robotics, it identifies Bernt Øyvind Børnich as founder and CEO. The company’s account of his childhood describes him taking apart kitchen gadgets. Its stated ambition is to build general-purpose robots that work alongside people.12345
Early hardware work included the Revo1 motor, which 1X dates to 2018. Its timeline places the wheeled EVE in customer factories in 2022, and its March 2023 financing announcement described EVE as commercially available. The company intended to expand EVE in Norway and North America while developing NEO.12
The company dates its turn toward home robots to 2023, followed by NEO Beta in 2024 and NEO Gamma in 2025. Consumer NEO launched on October 28, 2025, following both. These names mark different stages of development, so Gamma’s imagery and specifications should not be treated as those of the later consumer model.27
In its March 17, 2026 account of NEO's computing stack, 1X identified Jetson Thor onboard and described separate NVIDIA tools for simulation and model training. The consumer NEO product specification also names NEO Cortex (NVIDIA Jetson Thor). These sources cover consumer NEO, not the earlier NEO Beta or Gamma, and do not identify a direct purchasing contract.1314
In January 2025, 1X announced the acquisition of Kind Humanoid and the addition of its founder, Christoph Kohstall. The announcement described his previous work at Stanford and Google’s robotics team. That July, 1X announced a Palo Alto headquarters to bring together its Sunnyvale and Moss teams. Its About page still names Palo Alto, while its company-maintained profile lists San Carlos.2368
In an April 30, 2026 update, 1X said production had begun at its Hayward factory. It described making motors, batteries, structures and other components itself, while continuing internal home testing. The update said some customers would receive NEO in 2026 and others later; it does not confirm an individual buyer’s delivery.9
Which 1X robot are you looking at?
Consumer NEO is the household product covered here. NEO Gamma is an earlier home-development generation, while EVE belongs to the company’s industrial history.27
NEO
The consumer model launched in October 2025. 1X describes basic early autonomy with scheduled human Expert assistance for unfamiliar tasks.7
NEO Gamma
An earlier home-development model in the company’s 2025 timeline, preceding the later consumer NEO.27
Understand how the household work gets done
For a household considering NEO, scheduled Expert help makes remote access part of the buying decision. Ask who can see and control the robot, how a session begins and ends, and what happens when help is unavailable. The consumer NEO profile explains the offer and assistance model.7
Which job would you like to hand over?
Choose an ordinary routine, such as putting clean laundry away. Ask which parts the offered robot can do independently, when an operator is needed and how much attention your household must still give it. A demonstration that includes interruptions will tell you more about the experience you are considering.7
