Knightscope's robots belong in a security operation with people responsible for responding. The company serves US commercial and government clients, and its current offering combines mobile patrols, emergency communication equipment, remote monitoring and on-site personnel. That context matters when a household encounters a K5 in a parking lot or sees a K7 demonstration.134

William Santana Li and Stacy Dean Stephens founded Knightscope in April 2013. A historical offering filing describes Li’s Ford background, Stephens’ work as a police officer and their shared history at Carbon Motors. The first K5 version was completed in December 2013. The current leadership page names Li as chief executive.67
The company has expanded beyond mobile patrol. Its 2022 CASE acquisition added emergency communications. On February 27, 2026, it acquired Event Risk, which operates as Knightscope Security Force. The filing gives approximately USD 18 million of total purchase consideration for that transaction, a figure that should not be read as cash paid upfront.1
Knightscope now describes a managed offering combining robots, emergency communication equipment, software, remote monitoring and human security personnel. It serves US commercial and government clients. A site therefore needs to assess the patrol and the response arrangements together: observing something on a route and having someone respond are different parts of the service.13
Products and services
K5 and K7 address different patrol settings. Their maker’s availability labels describe the products, while the broader Knightscope service concerns monitoring and human response. A model name alone does not establish which services a site contract includes.34
Knightscope K5
The maker lists K5 as available for structured outdoor patrol, including parking lots, campuses and walkways. Start with the exact route and the response team. The listing is not a retail stock check or evidence of tested crime-prevention performance.34
Knightscope K7
The October 26, 2026 media-kit check labels K7 limited release for light-duty off-road perimeter patrol. A prior August release gave both Q3 and Q4 2026 for initial deployments. The later label does not resolve that historical inconsistency or establish a customer handover date.45
Knightscope Security Force
The acquired Event Risk business brings human security into the group’s offering. It is a service business, not another patrol-robot model. The responsibilities and response arrangements belong in the site proposal alongside the equipment.13
Understanding a robot at a shared property
For a resident or visitor encountering a patrol robot, the useful questions concern the site operator: who receives alerts, who attends an incident and who controls the recordings? Knightscope’s July 2026 public privacy notice covers website visitors. It does not establish a deployment’s video access, retention, deletion or complaints procedure.138
Who takes responsibility after an alert?
Write down the problem at the property and the route a patrol would cover. Ask who reviews an alert, who responds in person and how residents or staff contact that team. Then ask for the recording rules and service responsibilities in the actual proposal. These are commercial security systems to evaluate as part of a managed operation.138
