Roborock builds appliances around a familiar household goal: spending less time on routine cleaning. Founded in Beijing in July 2014, it received Xiaomi backing that September. A Mi Home robot vacuum followed in 2016, then a Roborock-branded model in 2017. The business now extends beyond robot vacuums into other home appliances.15

Founder Richard Chang came from software and product development. In a May 2022 Roborock-published interview, Zhang Ruimin, then head of product, recalls him leading Baidu Maps development before starting Roborock and inviting her to join. That history helps explain the company's interest in navigation and software as parts of a household appliance.34
Xiaomi helped shape the early product story: the Mi Home Robotic Vacuum Cleaner launched in September 2016. Roborock’s own branded machine followed in September 2017. That early investment is part of the company’s history; it does not establish that Roborock is a Xiaomi subsidiary today.1

A capable dock can change the maintenance routine, but the S8 MaxV Ultra manual still calls for tank care, bag changes and cleaning brushes and filters.57
