WeRide
Passenger rides, shared shuttles and street cleaning are separate branches of WeRide’s autonomous-driving business.4

A WeRide name on a vehicle can mean several quite different things. GXR is a robotaxi, Robobus carries groups, Robovan moves goods and Robosweeper cleans outdoor spaces. Understanding that distinction is the quickest way to find the part of the company that matters to a particular journey or neighbourhood.48910

WeRide began business in February 2017. The Cayman Islands holding company was incorporated on March 13 under the name JingChi Inc., and the business selected Guangzhou as its global headquarters that December. The operating business, legal company and headquarters each have their own milestone.23
WeRide identifies Tony Han as founder and chief executive, and Yan Li as cofounder and chief technology officer. According to the company biography, Han previously served as chief scientist of Baidu’s Autonomous Driving Unit and as a University of Missouri professor. Their business now spans transporting people, delivering goods and maintaining outdoor spaces.14
The vehicle and the local service
In September 2025, WeRide announced GXR and Robobus vehicles for Grab’s Ai.R programme in Singapore’s Punggol district, with Grab as operator. The announcement described an initial phase with onboard safety operators. A vehicle’s brand, the technology doing the driving and the operator arranging the journey can therefore answer different questions.7
In its August 12, 2026 results update, WeRide reported wider fully driverless robotaxi service areas in Guangzhou and Beijing. Those developments concern particular passenger programmes. A prospective rider still needs the local pickup area and passenger arrangements; the company’s cargo and cleaning programmes serve different jobs.689
Products
WeRide’s catalogue separates passenger vehicles, cargo delivery, sanitation and driver assistance. The product name and version are useful starting points because specifications and operating arrangements vary between them.4
WeRide GXR
GXR is the passenger robotaxi, developed around Farizon SuperVan architecture with WeRide driving technology. Its October 2024 unveiling described HPC 2.0 and Sensor Suite 5.6; a March 2026 exhibition vehicle used NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor in HPC 3.0. Those are dated configurations, so a rider or fleet customer should ask which vehicle is actually being supplied.41011
WeRide Robobus
Robobus serves shared passenger routes. As of October 26, 2026, WeRide’s catalogue listed ten seats for LCR 2.0, while the September 2025 Punggol announcement specified an eight-seat Robobus. WeRide’s July 2025 Resorts World Sentosa announcement described a fixed loop with remote monitoring and no onboard safety officer. The Sentosa and Punggol fleets have different operating arrangements; neither announcement identifies its vehicles as LCR 2.0.4713
WeRide Robovan W5
W5, introduced in February 2025, is for urban delivery and point-to-point logistics. WeRide describes cloud scheduling, monitoring and remote updates alongside the vehicle, making the people managing loading, deliveries and interruptions part of the evaluation. JTR is another catalogue label in the Robovan family; W5 specifications should stay attached to W5.49
WeRide Robosweeper
S1 and S6 are separate sanitation machines. In November 2024, WeRide announced S1 operations at Singapore’s Esplanade and S6 operations at Marina Coastal Drive with Chye Thiam Maintenance. This is outdoor cleaning for property and sanitation operators. A site assessment should cover the actual paths, pedestrian activity, waste handling and help needed when a machine stops.4814
WRD 3.0
WRD 3.0 belongs to WeRide’s driver-assistance line. Its inclusion in the same catalogue as robotaxis does not give it the operating conditions of a robotaxi service. For a proposed vehicle installation, ask what the delivered feature does and what the driver must do.4
Questions for your next journey
Start with one journey, such as a station connection with children and bags. Confirm the stops and booking operator, then ask about child seats, luggage, boarding assistance and recovery if the vehicle cannot continue. A seating count alone cannot answer those questions.4712
Who will provide the ride?
For the Punggol programme announced in September 2025, WeRide named Grab as operator. Other journeys need their own local service terms. Check the booking provider and available support for the trip you intend to take, rather than assuming that WeRide Inc. is the legal operator of every vehicle bearing the brand.457
