Whisker

The maker of Litter-Robot and Feeder-Robot focuses on recurring jobs in a pet household.2

Whisker's best-known product is built around an unglamorous task: separating used litter from clean litter. That focus makes its robots easier to evaluate than a general promise of help around the home. For a cat owner, the questions are concrete: will the cat use the box, what cleaning remains, and which connected features matter enough to pay for?25

A focused invention becomes a product line

Brad Baxter founded the business behind Litter-Robot. Whisker dates the formal launch of AutoPets to 2000, while Reuters describes a first Litter-Robot product launch in 1999. The invention and the business therefore have separate milestones in the company’s story.17

The company's history marks Litter-Robot 3 in 2015, Pondera's investment in 2019 and the change to the Whisker name in 2021. It also records Jacob Zuppke taking over as CEO in January 2022 while Baxter moved into a Chairman and Chief Inventor role. The current customer terms identify the operator as Automated Pet Care Products, LLC doing business as Whisker.13

Products and everyday jobs

Whisker's current portfolio includes Litter-Robot boxes, Feeder-Robot and its app. The litter-box range now includes EVO, 4, 5 and 5 Pro. That breadth makes generation names consequential: a camera or service feature promoted for one model is not automatically present in another.26

Litter-Robot 4

Litter-Robot 4 sifts used litter into a waste drawer. Owners still empty the drawer and clean the appliance. It is one named model in the range, so compare its own instructions and features rather than carrying over a camera or service advertised for another generation.46

Feeder-Robot

Feeder-Robot addresses another recurring job: feeding a pet. It belongs to the same company’s range, but choosing a feeder and choosing a litter box are separate decisions about a household’s routine.2

Whisker+

Whisker+ adds paid services for compatible models, including Litter-Robot 4. The company says SmartScale identification and weight tracking that were already included remain free. Compare the exact features of the device and membership separately so a useful mechanical job does not become confused with an optional data service.5

Living with the product

The privacy policy describes information such as cleaning-cycle history, waste-drawer levels, pet weights and visits. Whisker also says its app information does not replace veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment. A record of changed habits may prompt a question, but the device should not be described as diagnosing a cat's health.3

For a prospective owner, begin with the exact litter-box model and the household it must fit. Check your cat's size, the intended location and the maintenance you are willing to do, then read the warranty and subscription terms for that combination.256

What would change in your litter-care routine?

Where would the litter box sit, would your cat use it, and who would empty and clean it? Decide which chore you want to reduce before comparing app memberships. Also plan an ordinary litter-care alternative for the days when the appliance needs cleaning or repair.245
