Litter-Robot 4 tackles the repetitive part of litter care by sifting used litter into a waste drawer. You still empty that drawer and clean the appliance. For a household considering it, the first question is whether the cat and the intended location suit the box, followed by which app features will be useful.2
Fit the cat and the space
Whisker specifies a 22 by 27 inch footprint and a height of 29.5 inches. Measure the actual location, including the space needed to reach and clean the unit. The maker also says its weight measurements work best on a firm surface, so a convenient carpeted corner may require more thought than a hard floor.2
The automatic-mode minimum is a cat weighing 3 pounds. For smaller kittens, Whisker describes a powered-off, supervised procedure in its instructions. Follow the current manual for that situation rather than assuming the automatic cycle is suitable for every kitten. The appliance also needs appropriate clumping litter.2
Understand the app costs
For app connectivity, Litter-Robot 4 requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Its standard app presentation includes seven days of visits and weights, and Whisker says previously included SmartScale identification and weight tracking remain free. The optional Whisker+ membership is listed at $7.99 a month or $79.90 a year and adds longer history for this model.23
Those membership fees are separate from the hardware price and from extended warranty coverage. A current device price was not verified in this check. Compare the exact base unit or bundle at the point of purchase, and do not assume camera features shown for another Whisker model are part of Litter-Robot 4.2
Care, support and information
The direct-store offer describes a 90-day home trial, with return shipping paid by the customer, and one year of included WhiskerCare coverage. Purchases through other sellers follow their return policies. Keep the packaging and purchase details until you know how your cat responds and what the actual return process requires.2
Whisker's privacy policy includes device cycles, drawer levels, pet weights and visits in the data it collects. Its legal terms also distinguish that information from veterinary diagnosis or treatment. Use changes in the record as something to discuss with a veterinarian, rather than a diagnosis supplied by the box.1
Before choosing, decide who will empty and clean the unit, where it will sit and how you would manage litter care during a fault. A robot can make one recurring task easier while leaving the household responsible for the overall routine.2
