Super Cruise can reduce the steering work on a compatible road while the driver remains responsible for the journey. This reference covers the system offered with the US 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV, starting with LT 2 and RS eligibility. It is GM hardware and software with a continuously supervising driver.123

Where would it help on our usual journeys?

For a regular commute or family trip, check the highway segments you actually use. Chevrolet calls its online map approximate and directs owners to the vehicle's mapping. Coverage alone is not enough: lane markings, sensors, GPS, weather and the active service plan also matter. The MY2026 manual excludes city streets, construction zones and controlled intersections from appropriate hands-free use.43

A route to school or a holiday rental still leaves work for the driver. Super Cruise will not brake for a traffic light or stop sign or detect traffic crossing ahead. A passenger can manage the playlist or help children while the driver supervises; the driver cannot treat hands-free assistance as time to look away and do those jobs.3

How do I distinguish hands-on from hands-free?

The MY2026 Equinox EV sequence is to enable Adaptive Cruise Control, enable Super Cruise and set the desired speed. The available assistance state then depends on conditions. Hands-On Steering Assist requires hands on the wheel. Hands-free operation requires the Super Cruise indicators and wheel lightbar to show the required green state; a green hands-on icon alone does not mean hands-free.3

The manual lists operation below approximately 85 mph and not below 15 F (-9 C), among other conditions. Always follow the posted speed limit. These limits are useful when evaluating a cold-weather commute, but meeting them does not guarantee the system will engage.34

What happens when changing lanes or towing?

Automatic lane changes and turn-signal-activated changes are described for the equipped MY2026 car. They operate in hands-free mode and still require the driver to check traffic and be ready to steer. Built-in navigation can inform lane choice; that does not turn the trip into door-to-door autonomous driving.3

With an approved trailer, the manual describes Super Cruise adjusting the following gap. It disables automatic and turn-signal lane changes while towing, and a bike rack or cargo tray can also affect lane-change availability. Verify the exact trailer limits in the vehicle's towing supplement before planning a towing trip; no towing capacity is claimed here.3

What does the driver-attention camera do?

The driver-attention camera monitors head and eye position. The MY2026 manual says that system does not record or save video. This is a narrow statement about driver monitoring, not a description of every connected service's data handling. Keeping attention on the road remains the driver's job.3

What equipment and continuing payment are needed?

The inspected Equinox EV LT 2 FWD build requires Active Safety Package 3 plus Convenience Package II and totals $50,050 with destination, before incentives, taxes and dealer fees. Its package lists three years of OnStar One. For continuing use, OnStar's US FAQ quotes $39.99 a month as of October 26, 2026; future rates and vehicle-specific terms can differ.567

Check that the actual car has the factory equipment and an active entitlement. Chevrolet says the system and hardware are selected at ordering. This reference does not identify an individual car's software build or hardware revision, so it cannot confirm a particular update or retrofit.432

Does the future eyes-off announcement apply to this car?

GM's separate eyes-off plan begins with a future ESCALADE IQ introduction targeted as early as 2028. That announcement does not change the MY2026 Equinox EV driver's responsibilities or promise an upgrade for it.13

  1. 1. GM: Super Cruise today and what is next

GM identifies Super Cruise as its hardware and software system. The separate eyes-off plan concerns a future ESCALADE IQ introduction and supplies no current Equinox EV capability or retrofit promise.

  2. 2. OnStar Super Cruise features and vehicle eligibility

OnStar's MY2026 Equinox EV card names LT 2 and RS and lists their conditional Super Cruise features. Annual-price and road-total readings varied during inspection, so neither number is adopted here. A model card does not establish an individual vehicle's entitlement.

  3. 3. 2026 Equinox EV Owner Manual, third printing file dated June 10, 2026

The MY2026 Equinox EV manual file dated June 10, 2026 describes the controls and limitations on printed pages 207-218. Conditional equipment instructions do not identify the software build installed in an individual vehicle.

  4. 4. Chevrolet Super Cruise

Chevrolet requires Super Cruise hardware at vehicle ordering and describes its web road map as approximate. Use the vehicle's own coverage information and operating instructions for a planned journey.

  5. 5. MY2026 LT 2 FWD options

Selecting Active Safety Package 3 on LT 2 FWD triggered a required Convenience Package II addition. The package tile lists three years of OnStar One. This was an estimate-only build inspection.

  6. 6. MY2026 LT 2 FWD configured price

The October 26, 2026 build used LT 2 FWD, Riptide Blue Metallic and Black with Blue Accents Evotex. Its $50,050 total includes both selected packages and destination. A separate regional incentive is excluded, and no inventory match or delivery was verified.

  7. 7. OnStar Super Cruise FAQ

The US FAQ quoted $39.99 per month on October 26, 2026 and requires paid continuation after included connectivity expires. Future rates, taxes, discounts and an individual vehicle's activation date need checking.
