Rivian Autonomy+
1Autonomy+ is Rivian's driver-assistance family for eligible R1 Gen 2 and R2 vehicles. It can make parts of a commute less demanding, but the driver still watches the road and remains responsible for control. The useful buying question is how much of your normal journey the current features can assist, rather than what a future release might eventually do.126
What can it help with on a commute?
Universal Hands-Free is offered on eligible roads with clear lane markings. Co-steer lets the driver adjust lane position while assistance continues. Lane Change on Command responds to the driver's turn signal after the driver checks the lane. Rivian's August roadmap expands that lane-change feature beyond divided highways, to roads where Universal Hands-Free is available. The precise software installed in a particular vehicle still matters.165
Does Universal Hands-Free stop at a red light?
No. Current Universal Hands-Free will not stop or slow for traffic lights or stop signs. A light or sign appearing on the driver display does not change that limit. On a mixed commute, assistance on one marked stretch therefore does not remove your job at the next junction. Rivian's current product page also still labels Auto Parking and On-Ramp to Off-Ramp as coming in 2026.16
What am I paying for?
US pricing is $49.99 per month or $2,500 for a one-time upgrade. Canada lists C$69.99 per month or C$3,500. Eligible new vehicles receive a 60-day trial, while R2 Launch Package includes the entitlement. The US monthly option renews automatically. One-time access stays with the vehicle, but new capabilities remain limited by support for its delivered hardware.1789
Who can get Point-to-Point, and when?
Point-to-Point is planned to add supervised route following, including turns and intersections. As checked on October 26, Rivian targets first feature access in late 2026 and broad release in 2027. Its invitation-only program initially selects owners in California and Florida. It requires active Autonomy+, excludes trials, Gen 1 and Canada, and includes participation, data-sharing and confidentiality obligations. Applying does not mean the feature is installed.610Reported
Can the driver turn their attention to passengers?
Even the planned Point-to-Point feature keeps continuous driver supervision. A parent hoping to turn around and attend to a child during the drive would still need another adult to handle that task or a suitable place to stop. Hands-free describes the permitted steering interaction in supported conditions; it does not make the driver another passenger.16
Why do Rivian pages say both 10 and 11 cameras?
The sensor counts need care. Rivian's current generic Autonomy page says 10 HDR cameras and five radars. Its R2 Launch Package material says 11 cameras and five radars, while its historical Gen 2 R1 material also says 11 cameras. These sources do not explain a shared counting convention. We have kept the exact hardware count unresolved instead of assuming that one camera is being counted differently.134Reported
Does a software update mean new hardware?
Rivian's future Gen 3/RAP1 and lidar plans should not be assigned to an existing retail car. Nor does installing RivianOS 2 establish newer autonomy hardware on a Gen 1 R1. Check the vehicle generation, software and entitlement together. The separate planned robotaxi program is a different operating context from this supervised retail system.25611Reported
How should I judge it for my journey?
Use your regular journey as the comparison: the marked road where assistance is offered, the junctions you handle yourself and the passengers who may need your attention. Confirm the vehicle's supported conditions in its current Owner's Guide and display before relying on a feature. This reference has not qualified exact speed, weather or towing limits for an installed build.15
