Give the character a useful role
Mesmer is Engineered Arts’ full-size platform for realistic, customizable characters. The practical question is what the character should do for the people meeting it. A museum might want a guided conversation about an exhibit; an event might need a repeatable introduction. Define that exchange before choosing a face, costume or voice.1
Tritium provides the software framework. Its Roles feature lets an operator shape identity, knowledge and behavior, while the product page lists interaction, conference and telepresence modes. These are different ways of running an experience, so a demonstration should make clear when the robot is responding through AI and when a person is speaking through it.1
Plan for a full-size installation
The current full-size specification lists 61 actuated movements, a height of 1,870 mm and a mass of 62 kg. Mesmer Desktop Gen 3 is a separate product with 32 actuated degrees of freedom. The smaller model’s specification should not be used to plan transport or space for a full-size Mesmer.23
Installation needs more than room for the body. The specification calls for indoor operation, mains power and Ethernet, and lists a primary LiDAR safety zone at least 3.2 metres across. Check the venue’s floor plan, visitor flow, cable routes and accessibility with the supplier. The checked specification does not establish a walking capability.2
Budget for the experience as well as the body
Engineered Arts offers rental and quotation routes. Its specification recommends maintenance every six months and lists a one-year parts-and-labor warranty with extension options. Confirm which services, travel costs, software usage and character work are included for the proposed location and term.12
The robot has cameras, and its AI software can use cloud-connected services. Before inviting visitors to talk to it, settle the privacy notice, recording settings, retention period and access by service providers. Ask to run a rehearsal with the intended audience noise and questions, then agree how a staff member can take over or end an interaction.21
