A Model Y shortlist starts with a simple packing question: who needs a seat, and what has to come with them? The five-seat US Rear-Wheel Drive model can trade rear passenger space for folded-seat luggage space, but a family trip needs room for both. FSD (Supervised) offers driving assistance with an attentive driver, not a way for that driver to become another passenger.175
Who can come along, and what happens to the luggage?
The selected car has five seating positions. Tesla's manual describes folding the second-row seatbacks, with different controls depending on equipment. Plan around the seats your passengers will actually occupy: a luggage arrangement that uses a folded seat is not the same arrangement with someone sitting there. Bring the stroller, mobility aid or large bags you normally carry when checking the car's fit.17
What help does FSD provide on the school run or commute?
For an equipped Model Y, Tesla describes help with turns, intersections and entering or leaving highways. You remain the driver and must watch the road and be ready to intervene. Think about the part of your regular journey you want help with, then ask which functions the supplied car can use there. The useful comparison is the assistance you can actually use, not the name of the package.5
Can I use FSD on a weekend trip with bikes or a trailer?
Tesla's Model Y manual says not to use FSD with a ball hitch, bike rack or trailer attached at the rear. The configurator separately offers a $1,000 tow hitch. For a cycling or towing trip, budget and plan around driving yourself; buying the hitch does not remove the assistance restriction.51
What does this Model Y cost before local taxes?
On October 26, 2026, the US cash selector showed $39,990 for Rear-Wheel Drive in Stealth Grey, with 18-inch Aperture wheels and All Black interior. A $1,390 destination fee and $250 order fee brought the displayed estimate to $41,630. The order fee was labeled non-refundable. Taxes and government fees are additional, and the order agreement does not guarantee a delivery date.13
What does the optional driving assistance add to the bill?
The selected order showed Traffic-Aware Cruise Control included and a one-month FSD trial. Continuing with the optional FSD subscription was listed at $99 per month before tax, billed separately. Trial terms can change before delivery. Tesla requires vehicle eligibility and a software update, and some cars need a separately paid prerequisite upgrade. Monthly payments are not prorated when canceled; access continues through that billing period.136
How should I plan charging around a family trip?
The selected order included a Mobile Connector and offered a $585 Wall Connector that requires installation. An installation price for your home is not included here. For longer journeys, Trip Planner can add Supercharger stops and charging estimates where available; third-party charging stops are added manually. Use those stops to plan the journey around your passengers, while checking the actual charging options near the destination.18
Which car and software do these answers describe?
The October 26, 2026 base Rear-Wheel Drive selection is retained here; the October 30 Premium RWD selection is a separate reference. Tesla lists 321 miles as an EPA range estimate, which is not a promise for a loaded trip in your weather. The online North America manual is labeled Model Y 2025+ and software 2026.32. The delivered model year, installed AI computer and FSD build still need confirmation for the particular car. Those manual labels do not establish an exact software match.1459
