The Combo j9+ is designed to vacuum and mop household floors, with a pad that retracts onto the robot when it detects carpet. This profile covers the Combo package with its Clean Base Auto-Fill dock, identified as C975020 in iRobot's US parts selector. The vacuum-only Roomba j9+ is a different product.12
What the dock takes off your hands
iRobot introduced Combo j9+ in September 2023. Its Auto-Fill dock empties collected debris and replenishes the robot’s liquid tank. iRobot describes SmartScrub as back-and-forth mopping under pressure, while Dirt Detective uses cleaning history to prioritize rooms and adjust settings. The amount of cleaning this saves will depend on your floors and routine.1
The remaining chore is easy to overlook when reading the Auto-Fill name: the mop pad still needs washing. iRobot's care instructions allow hand washing or a warm machine cycle, followed by air drying. If your aim is to avoid handling a dirty pad after mopping, compare that routine with a model whose station actually washes the pad.31
Make room before the first run
The English owner's guide specifies a hard-floor dock position, with 0.5 metres clear on each side, 1.2 metres ahead and at least 1.2 metres from stairs. It calls for good Wi-Fi coverage and avoiding direct sunlight. Measure that space where you expect to leave the dock, then confirm the instructions supplied with your regional unit.4
Setup uses the iRobot Home app. Clear the floor before mapping, even if obstacle avoidance is a reason you chose the robot: iRobot says PrecisionVision is inactive during a training or mapping run on these models. Cables and pet waste need particular attention during that first mapping step.45
A camera and choices about sharing
The Combo j9+ has a front-facing camera. Obstacle Image Review is optional, and iRobot says turning it off does not disable obstacle avoidance. That choice is separate from other connected-device data described in the privacy notice, including usage and home-environment information. Review both the account settings and the policy with everyone sharing the home.56
Buying or keeping one
The US launch price in September 2023 was $1,399 for Combo j9+. The $899 launch figure belonged to the separate vacuum-only j9+. For a purchase now, ask for the price and condition of C975020 with its Auto-Fill dock, together with local warranty terms. A current US offer has not been verified here.12
For an existing machine, start with the model-specific care guidance and parts selector. Before buying another one, ask which bags, pads, brushes and battery the seller can supply, and how a repair would be handled locally. Current documentation is useful, but it is not a promise of a particular number of future support years.2
Questions to settle before choosing
Does the proposed dock location leave the side, front and stair clearances required by your manual?4
Are you happy to wash and air-dry the pad, or is automated pad washing the main job you want to remove?3
Is the seller offering C975020 with the Auto-Fill dock, and are condition, consumables and local warranty written into the offer?21
